A food festival with a twist was given a warm reception Saturday.

This was the first year for Eat Real YYC, a food festival of a different kind.

A dozen food trucks parked for the day at the new Casel Marche in Killarney.

The trucks were joined by Alberta farms and other Calgary based food and beverage companies.

The idea was to promote eating locally grown food and support local businesses.

Organizers underestimated just how popular the event would be as an estimated 3,000 people took part and every food truck sold out of food.

"It's been pushed by the city and encouraged that we do a lot more mixed use now," says Joel Goralski, president of the Niklas Group - the Casel Marche developer. "The mixed use that we have here at Casel is a really true mixed use. We have a market, a wine store, restaurant, coffee shop and now we've extend it to the street with a bit of a food festival."
