At Clear Water Academy handball has become a popular pursuit after it was introduced to the school by Director of Athletics Paul D'Angelo.

"Our kids are pretty passionate about the game and enjoy doing it in PhysEd class and it's a fast paced game. It's contact in a gym and the kids move quickly and create open spaces and its a great team sport," said D'Angelo.

Folusho Odufeso is a senior at the school and has picked the sport up very quickly.

He is primarily a basketball player but has all the tools he needs to succeed on this court.

"There's more space in this than basketball so I have the ability to move more," said Odufeso.

"He's got speed, he's got vertical, he can jump really high. He's got a hard shot and its a natural fit for him to be a good handball player," said Head Coach Derek McIntosh.

"With basketball you have to dribble first before you move. Whereas with handball you don't need to so that was actually something that was hard to get used to at first. Now its pretty easy," said Odufeso.

Odufeso hopes to study software engineering at the University of Victoria next year.

He says handball has taught him be to more of a leader and team player.

For his superior skill set and positive attitude, Folusho Odufeso is the CTV Calgary Athlete of the Week for Friday, May 11, 2012.
