Prime Minister Stephen Harper's director of communications Andrew MacDougall was applauded on Tuesday after he took to Twitter to launch a stinging rebuttal against another tweeter.

The virtually anonymous Twitter user going by the name @oxy28 asked MacDougall "How does it feel to work for the biggest a**hole in Canada?"

MacDougall responded: "I wouldn't know. I don't work for you."

That triggered a flurry of retweets as well as messages of support from other Twitter users.

John Ivison, a political columnist, wrote: "Love @PMO_MacDougall's response to heckler. Civility is dead on Twitter, so bring it on."

Andrew Potter, managing editor at the Ottawa Citizen, also applauded MacDougall's uncensored response to the heckler.

"I don't know much, but I know what I like. And I like this @PMO_MacDougall guy," he tweeted.

The original instigator, @oxy28, had just two followers on Twitter as of Tuesday morning and was following 21 people.

The bio associated with the account had no name, just the description: "proud canadian who's deeply embarrassed with our current dictator stephen harper."
