EDMONTON - Traffic is creeping, power is blinking out and heavy, wet snow is quickly piling up as a pre-Easter weekend storm rolls through central Alberta.

A heavy snowfall warning is in place for much of the region, with up to 25 centimetres of snow expected in some places.

Several centimetres have already fallen on Edmonton and outlying areas, reducing visibility and making travel for commuters and school bus drivers treacherous.

Power has been knocked out in and around the Alberta capital and utility company Epcor says crews are scrambling to make repairs.

Some flights at Edmonton's international airport have been delayed by the storm.

Conditions were expected to improve by the afternoon.
