The pilot of a helicopter that crashed near Canmore has died from his injuries.

RCMP was notified about the crash near Loder Peak at around 1:00 p.m. Friday.

Five people were onboard the aircraft, operated by Kananaskis Mountain Helicopters, at the time of the crash.

The area is remote and rescuers were not able to land at the site.

"Safety's number one. Safety to the rescue team and safety for the people on site, that's the main concern," said Glenn Naylor from Albeta Parks.

Rescue teams did manage to reach the downed chopper on Friday afternoon and found all five passengers alive.

The pilot suffered serious injuries and died on his way to hospital in Calgary.

The other four people were transported by ground in non life-threatening condition to hospital for evaluation.

The name of the pilot is not being released at this time.

The Transportation Safety Board will be investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
