The family of a little boy who has received a number of transfusions is giving back by holding a blood donor drive.

Braeden Lousier-Hicks was born prematurely and has a number of health issues.

He was just 22 days old when he had heart surgery and also suffered from Sepsis.

His life has been saved many, many times through the blood donor program.

Friends and family of the little boy organized a blood donor drive on Monday as a way of saying thanks and giving back.

Their goal is to collect 35 units of blood which is the same number of transfusions that Braeden has had.

"It has saved my son's life 35 times now," said Michael Hicks, Braeden's father. "We're just trying to give back and I will be a blood donor from now until they tell me I can't give anymore."

Because Braeden is so tiny, he has only ever received a quarter of a unit of blood.

"He's getting a little bit stronger each day and we're still looking at a three to six month hospital stay, most likely, until he can actually come home," said Braedens mother, Lia Lousier-Hicks.
