Scores of feral rabbits from Canmore are being spayed and neutered in Calgary.

The town of Canmore has turned over all of the rabbits it has trapped to the rescue group Earthanimal Humane Education and Rescue Society (EARS).

EARS is spaying, or neutering, the animals then housing them in sanctuaries for the rest of their lives.

Local veterinarians are volunteering their expertise to sterilize the rabbits.

Calgary Animal Services donated the use of its high tech and high volume operating suite.

The head of animal services, Bill Bruce, says it's not costing Calgary taxpayers any money.
