A newborn baby boy from Airdrie has died from his injuries after he was attacked by a family pet.

Police say the dog attacked the little boy inside the family's home in the Kingsland Area at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday.

The attack caused serious trauma to the child and he was rushed to the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary but succumbed to his injuries later that night.

The dog, a husky, has been quarantined and a decision is being made by the family and Airdrie bylaw officers on what to do with the animal.

"The dog is a husky breed. There is no history whatsoever of any issue with this particular dog," said Airdrie RCMP Inspector Tony Hamori.

People in the dogsled community identify the family as Rob and Rhonda Fradette.

The Fradettes have four huskies and a dogsled gear business.

Neighbours who love watching the sled dogs go by are sympathetic and horrified for the poor family.
