More than 1,400 drivers now have first-hand experience with the new distracted driving legislation.
That's how many people have been ticketed since the law went into effect in September with 1,300 of those tickets being issued to people using their cell phones.
Police say the number of violations dipped shortly after the new rules came into effect, but have begun climbing again.
According to Cst. Mike Hagen of the Calgary Police Service, Calgarians are slipping back into old habits.
"They are getting sneaky," says Hagen. "We can see their heads are down when they're stopped at red lights. They look to make sure no cops are around."
Police say they have caught motorists knitting and playing musical instruments while behind the wheel.
