Mexican authorities say they have security footage of the brutal atack on a Canadian tourist who was left badly beaten in a hotel elevator.

On Wednesday, the Mexican government revealed that they have a new development in the investigation.

The Governor of Sinaloa State visited Nabb in hospital on Tuesday and told a Mexican journalist that they have videos from the hotel that will help explain what happened that night.

In the interview, he says they now believe the attack on Nabb was internal not external, but would not say if locals were involved.

Reports say that the Nabb's attacker appears to be a male tourist in his 20s seen beating Nabb in the elevator where she was found.

They would not release any information about the suspect's nationality, but said they were confident that extradition treaties would be effective in returning him to the country for arrest.

Interviews were conducted on all the hotel guests, including a man with bruises on his hand and injuries to his chin, but no arrests have been made.

Additionally, Sheila's husband Andrew viewed the video but was unable to identify the attacker.

Sheila Nabb was scheduled to undergo facial reconstruction surgery on Wednesday or Thursday but her family says doctors ran into problems when they were trying to remove her tracheotomy.

They say pneumonia is quite common for someone in Nabb's condition.

The 37-year-old was found in an elevator last week at her luxury hotel in Mazatlan. She had been badly beaten.

Nabb was brought out of a medically-induced coma on Tuesday and began to show encouraging signs of recovery, according to a statement from the family.

She recognized her husband Andrew and her father-in-law, was responsive to questions and was able to understand and follow directions, said the statement from her brother Paul Giles.

In the statement, Nabb's brother said his sister's husband Andrew has been like a "pillar" by her side throughout the ordeal. "It just goes to show exactly how much he truly loves her," the statement said.

Nabb, and her husband were vacationing at the Hotel Riu Emerald Bay when she was attacked.

Her uncle, Robert Prosser, said she left her room late at night and was found early Friday morning. Her husband didn't realize she was gone until he woke up at 6:00 a.m. and went looking for her.
