Calgary fire crews have knocked down a fire on a CN rail yard that broke out early Tuesday morning.

The call first came in at about 3:30 a.m. and when crews arrived they found a crane on fire at the CN Rail Sarcee Yard in the 5300 block of 27 St. S.E.

Due to a lack of a water supply on site, crews needed to string hoses across the street to have enough water to fight the blaze.

The road was closed to traffic because of the hoses strung over it.

One of the big concerns for crews was a tank containing 400 litres of diesel fuel, so more manpower was called up to help contain and suppress the fire.

No one was injured due to the fire.

50 Ave. will remain closed for the duration of the investigation into the cause of the blaze.
