The man accused in a hit and run death outside an Olds bar was found guilty of second degree murder on Wednesday night.

Jeffrey Leinen, was charged with murder in connection with the hit and run death of 18-year-old Nicholas Baier.

The family of the slain Baier says there is no hope for a different future which should have included the bright, hard working rancher.

The jury saw security footage that showed a pickup truck near a group of people standing outside the Texas Mickey Bar. The truck approaches the group and plows into them.

Witnesses said the driver had just been kicked out of the club for fighting.

Leinen told police he was just trying to get away from the bar where he was beaten up and that he would never get in his truck and run somebody down on purpose.

RCMP arrested Leinen a short distance from the bar after he crashed the truck.

Leinen was found guilty of second degree murder and aggravated assault by a jury just after 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

The decision means he will not be eligible for parole for between 10 and 25 years.

Leinen is expected back in court on Friday where victim impact statements are entered and lawyers may also begin sentencing arguments.
