Calgary Transit and the Calgary Police are using an unusual tactic in order to spread awareness of how dangerous it is to cross in front of moving trains after a woman was killed and a man injured in accidents a day apart.

Officials are hoping that Calgarians who see a video made up of surveillance video showing several near misses will understand just how dangerous the situation is and how important it is to stem the flow of such incidents.

On Tuesday night, a man ended up in hospital with head injuries after he was struck and dragged for quite a distance under an LRT car.

Police are looking into eyewitness reports that the man was wearing earbuds and attempted to cross the street against the ‘don't walk' signal.

On Monday morning, 49-year-old Karnail Kaur Brar was killed when she crossed in front of the train at Whitehorn stations.

Police say that the signals and barrier arms were working during the incident, but investigators believe the woman was distracted and wasn't paying attention when she was hit.

Mauro D'Orazio was driving a CTrain in August when he hit a 36-year-old man who appeared to be rushing to catch the train.

The man ended up dying from his injuries.

D'Orazio says that it isn't only the person who gets hit that suffers. "One guy got hit, but everyone suffered. I'm suffering. The police, the firefighters ... they have trauma. You're not affecting one person, me the driver, you're affecting everyone."
