A Friday morning explosion at a four-plex in Innisfail has taken the life of 23-year-old Vicky Shachtay.

According to neighbours and members of her church, Shachtay was a young mother who had been left paralyzed by a car crash.

A second woman, Shachtay's aide, was in the apartment at the time of the explosion but was not seriously injured.

According to RCMP, a package delivered to the four-plex caused the explosion.

"We are wanting the public to be aware and be mindful of any unanticipated delivery of any packages," says RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb.

RCMP continue to investigate.

Innisfail is approximately 100 km north of Calgary along the Q.E.II highway.
