Suicide is the second highest cause of death for Canadians between 10 and 24. About 3700 people die from suicide every year, but the issue is rarely addressed in the mainstream.

This summer, a group of teens took on the challenge of addressing some of the unspoken themes in a full length feature film - one they created entirely on their own and shot in and around Calgary.

Kurt Harder wrote, directed and produced the film "Cody Fitz."

He says he got the idea to make the movie after one of his friends took his own life.

It took 17 days to shoot the full-length film and most of the permanent crew was in their teens or early 20s.

"Cody Fitz" is expected to be released in spring 2012.
