The occupation of Olympic Plaza by protestors may soon end.

The mayor says he's been talking with police, bylaw and emergency management and will be soon making a major announcement on the city's intentions.

The city will likely give the occupation protestors 24 hours notice to peacefully bring down their tents.

Ward 2 councilor Gord Lowe says it's about time.

"I understand the right of assembly," says Lowe. "I understand and respect the right to have an opinion. I do not understand or respect the right to squat."

Neither side in Calgary wants the plaza occupation to end in a similar fashion to the movement in Oakland.

Things again turned violent in the California city when demonstrators shut down one of the United States busiest shipping ports.

Protestors marched downtown and were met by police tear gas.
