It was a chance meeting, the unlikeliest of reunions, at a senior's home in northwest Calgary.

Two Second World War veterans, who last saw one another in 1944, ended up in the same seniors lodge and resume a friendship after 67 years.

Evert Hermanson is now 91-years-old and fellow fighter pilot Lloyd Jones is 89.

A few weeks ago Evert moved into the facility, and one morning, over breakfast, he was introduced to Lloyd.

It didn't take long before the two men remembered one another.

Since that meeting they have rekindled their friendship, sharing memories and spending time poring over old pictures and scrapbooks.

They both flew Mosquito night fighters against the Germans.

"We called him Junior Jones during the war cause he looked like a kid," says Hermanson. "Didn't know his name, so called him Junior."

"So he said Evert, this is Lloyd Jones used to fly planes," says Jones. "Evert says ‘what kind of planes'? Mosquitos, ‘so did I, What squadron?', 409, ‘so was I'."

Both men plan to attend the Remembrance Day ceremony at the lodge at Valley Ridge, where they live.
