Calgary Police say they have a man in custody and have seized a white Jeep they believe to be involved in the fatal hit and run of a young woman on Friday night.

Faiza Ali Mohamud, 22, was hit when she was crossing MacLeod Trail at the Harry Hays building on Friday night.

The driver of the Jeep that hit her left her for dead in the street.

Mohamud was taken to hospital but died a few days later.

A surveillance photo of a Jeep was released earlier in the week in the hope of someone spotting the vehicle in the city.  Police are thanking the public for their assistance in the investigation.

Police have arrested and charged 36-year-old Robert St. Jean of Calgary with failure to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm or death.

Mohamud had arrived in Calgary from Somalia and had been staying at the YWCA Mary Dover House since September.

Police were able to contact her family overseas but haven't said if there is any comment from them.
