Many have questioned why an amber alert hasn't been issued in our province for a missing Sparwood boy even though the town is very close to the Alberta border.

Alberta's amber alert co-coordinator for the RCMP says Alberta Mounties will issue an alert if asked, but that request has to come from their colleagues in B.C.

RCMP Corporal Peter Nobles says although no alert has officially been issued for the public, word is spreading through social media.

In addition, a province wide alert has gone out to all law enforcement in Alberta.

"We do have police officers investigating in Alberta. A province wide alert would have gone out to all law enforcement and again I don't know a lot of the details but I can tell you that there are officers actively investigating in Alberta," said Nobles.

The Missing Children's Society of Canada also has its own free app where you can get the latest alerts.
