A woman is dead and a man is in police custody after a high speed crash in Okotoks early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred at about 2:54 a.m. on July 23 on Cimarron Blvd. near Cimarron Park Circle.

A Ford Mustang was speeding eastbound on Cimarron Blvd. when it lost control, left the road, and hit two trees and a light standard.

The driver of the car was not seriously injured and fled from the scene of the crash but was caught by police a short distance away.

A male passenger front the front of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries while a female passenger in the backseat was ejected from the vehicle.

Eve Parisi, 20, of Sainte-Catherine, Quebec, was taken from the scene by STARS air ambulance with life-threatening injuries but died later in hospital.

Several witnesses to the crash were able to provide statements to police and one helped capture the fleeing driver.

The crash is still under investigation and the Okotoks RCMP are asking for any other witnesses to provide information.

Alcohol and speed appear to have contributed to the crash.

Charges are under consideration against the driver pending the completion of the investigation.
