The North American began on Wednesday at Spruce Meadows and this is usually one of the best shows as almost a million dollars in purse money is up for grabs.

The competition is on for five days and there is over $900,000 in prize money on the line.

Eric Lamaze is a familiar face and is the favourite for the Atco Power Queen Elizabeth II Cup.

Lamaze is the all-time leading money winner at Spruce Meadows.

The Cenovus Classic Derby is also on tap at the famous equestrian venue this week.

Lamaze and American Leslie Howard are heavy contenders, but so is Rich Fellers who is also from the United States.

Feller is often mistaken for a jockey because he flies at through the courses in the international ring at an astonishing speed.

Rich won two events on Wednesday.

The North American closes out the Spruce Meadows Summer Series and runs through to Sunday.
