The RCMP is still searching for suspects after a violent home invasion east of Calgary left two people in hospital and a dog requiring surgery for a gunshot wound.
At approximately 5:50 p.m. on Saturday, the Strathmore RCMP received a call of a home invasion in progress in the Village of Cheadle, about 12 km west of Strathmore.
It was learned that the suspects were armed, had assaulted the home owners, and fled the scene.
Strathmore RCMP found the vehicle, a dark coloured SUV, and a chase began westbound on Highway 1 towards Calgary.
Speeds in excess of 200 km/h were reached with the suspect vehicle driving into the ditch several times.
They entered the Calgary city limits at Stoney Trail and the pursuing officers lost sight of the suspect vehicle.
Two females and two males were reported being at home when three suspects wearing masks broke in.
They produced a firearm, assaulted two of the occupants and reportedly shot the family dog.
The other victims fled when they realized the suspects had guns.
The suspects stole some items from the home and fled the scene.
The victims stated they didn't know the identity of the suspects, but police believe this was not a random attack.
Strathmore RCMP continue to investigate with assistance from the Calgary RCMP General Investigation Section and the Forensic Identification Section.
