The Animal Rescue Shelter in Crossfield is offering a reward for information in the death of a four-week-old kitten.
A farm crew working near Namaka, southeast of Strathmore, saw something being thrown out of a passing van window.
When they went to see what it was, they found an injured kitten in the ditch.
One of the workers took the kitten to a local veterinary clinic, but says she didn't find any help.
"She was asked to pay $300 to euthanize the cat because the vet thought it should be," says Jenn Fitzpatrick of the Tails to Tell Animal Rescue Shelter. "But she wanted to see if there was anything that could be done for him."
The worker then found Tails to Tell shelter in Crossfield on the internet.
Edna Jackson, shelter owner, drove to Strathmore and rushed the kitten to an Airdrie clinic.
Unfortunately, the kitten did not make it.
A necropsy completed on Thursday revealed the kitten died from high speed injuries, including a broken leg.
The local peace officer is talking to witnesses and the shelter has contacted the ASPCA to investigate.
Witnesses described the vehicle as:
- Red, old-style minivan
- Older male driver
- Female passenger
