The Calgary Board of Education is looking into expanding it's language curriculum in schools by adding the language spoken by over 230 million people in the world.

A well attended open house was held at the Calgary Board of Education on Thursday night.

The board says it was approached by parents who expressed interest in having an Arabic Language Program.

Parents says Calgary's Arabic community is growing and it's a language widely spoken internationally.

The CBE says if the language program is approved, it's open to everyone.

"This program hopefully will appeal to Calgarians of all different cultures who may be interested in Arabic language learning for their kids we've seen that in our Mandarin bilingual and German bilingual," said Richard Peter of the Calgary Board of Education.

If the demand is there, the Arabic Language Program could open in fall 2012.
