People who fly remote control helicopters in Calgary are hoping the city will help them find a permanent home.

The Calgary RC Helicopter Club has 30 members and in the winter they meet twice a month to fly indoors at the Calgary Christian High School gym.

The space is limited so they are not able to pilot their larger helicopters inside.

Members say their frustration increases come summer because city bylaws don't let them use park space to fly their remote controlled aircraft.

The group is looking for the city to allocate some land so they would have a permanent home and safe fly zone.

"Probably about 10 acres would be fine, preferably something that doesn't have a lot of tall trees or buildings, or wires around there, something like a farmer's field would be excellent, a lot of farmers have 150 acres, and 10 acres wouldn't be that much at all," said Dino Zuzic from the Calgary RC Helicopter Club.

The City of Calgary Parks Department says it is reviewing the request for land.
