A man Calgary police have charged with making and distributing child pornography worked as a youth volunteer at a local church.

Since 2006, Roderick Kyle Janssen volunteered with children aged 9 through 18 at the First Assembly Church.

A spokeperson for the church says the congregation is devastated.

A meeting was held Thursday with church volunteer leaders to go over the serious charges and also discuss about how to talk to parents and children about the situation.

The church says Janssen passed two criminal background checks.

The latest was in 2010.

The 35-year-old faces numerous charges, including possession, accessing, making and distributing child pornography.

He was arrested on Tuesday after city police were notified he allegedly shared child porn photos with an undercover FBI agent online.

A Calgary girl under the age of 14 is a victim and authorities think there may be more here.

First Assembly says so far no one in its congregation has come forward with any allegations against Janssen.
