Medicine Hat officials say efforts to manage water flows and relieve pressure are working but they are concerned about the possibility of snow overnight.
Emergency management staff on site say the threat of a breach in the reservoir has been diminished.
A state of emergency remains in effect in Cypress County and Medicine Hat, but an evacuation order for Cypress County has been lifted.
High stream flows are expected to continue through the day and a snowfall warning has been issued for the area.
The snow will impact water levels but the cold temperatures should slow the water down.
Ministers Rob Renner, Hector Goudreau and Jack Hayden, along with MLA Len Mitzel, toured the area on Wednesday to see the situation first-hand.
Volunteers are making sandbags and they will be available at the Medicine Hat College parking lot about 7:00 p.m.
Officials say there is a possibility of road closures and will likely affect:
- The roads between Collage Ave. S.E. and Kipling St. S.E.
- The Dunmore Rd. S.E. crossing at Kingsway Ave. S.E.
- The Scholten Hill crossing on Carry Dr. S.E.
Residents are being asked to stay away from all trails near the water and from Kim Coulee Park.
