It may be spring but winter returned with a vengeance to southern Alberta overnight.

Much of the Calgary area will remain under a winter storm warning Saturday night.

Environment Canada warned of "dangerous winter weather conditions," due to an intense spring storm over northwestern Montana blowing across southern Alberta.

Northeasterly winds are also bringing in drifting or blowing snow over the southeastern corner of the province.

The heavy wet snow caused chaos on the roads.

Between midnight and 3:30 p.m. Saturday, police responded to 19 injury collisions, none of them life-threatening, and 103 non-injury collisions.

Many hills are impassable due to snow and ice, and at least three police cruisers were struck while officers were responding to crashes.

Some hills, including Bow Trail, had to be closed off for a short period of time for sanding crews to come in.

The weather also impacted some flights at the Calgary International Airport. Some flights taking off Saturday morning were delayed by up to 45 minutes.
