A man who allegedly frequents online dating sites and victimizes the women he meets is facing a string of charges, say RCMP.

Shannon Bradford Dixon, 33, also known as Shannon Mercer, has been charged with more than 22 offences including extortion, fraud, sexual assault, assault, uttering threats, bestiality and injuring or endangering animals.

Police say when Dixon becomes intimate with the women, he allegedly takes intimate photos of them, and threatens to post them online unless they provide him with money.

He has allegedly bilked $10,000 to $300,000 from each victim.

Police were first alerted when a victim went to Grande Prairie RCMP last April to report she had been physically abused and threatened, and that Dixon had allegedly extorted over $300,000 from her.

So far there are five victims - including one from Calgary - known to police and officers are urging other victims to come forward.

Dixon was arrested on Tuesday in Waterloo, Ont., on domestic violence charges and will be sent to Alberta after these charges are dealt with.
