The issue of secondary suites in Calgary may finally be resolved Monday.
City council will vote on whether or not the secondary suite bylaws should change.
Many Calgarians, including Mayor Naheed Nenshi, say secondary suites should be allowed in homes across the city.
Right now, special permission is required to build them in most areas.
As a result, there are an estimated 40,000 illegal ones in the city. And there are concerns that those suites don't meet codes.
Some say changing the bylaws will help with Calgary's affordable housing crisis.
However, not everyone wants to see the rules change.
Some people are concerned traffic and parking will become a nightmare if suites are suddenly added in dozens of communities.
