Women all around the world, including those in Lethbridge, are celebrating International Women's Day.

International Women's Day, marked on March 8th every year, is a time for people to celebrate the progress made to advance women's equality, and the progress that continues to take place.

Women gathered at the Galt Museum Saturday to listen to local speakers and talk about the challenges women still face.

"Certainly we're seeing gains here in Canada when it comes to laws around domestic and sexual violence, but we're seeing certain backward slides as well," says Kristine Cassie with the YWCA.

"Canada is certainly well-positioned to help other countries through the gender lens to move policy and legislations forward. To help countries, be it Haiti, Zimbabwe, or wherever else in the world, we need to bring women's rights to the forefront."
