Calgary Police say a man's handgun accidently discharged Thursday night narrowly missing neighbouring residents in nearby townhomes.

It happened just after 10 o'clock on Saddlebrook Point northeast in Saddle Ridge.

Police say a man was inside his home handling his registered firearm when it discharged.

A single bullet pierced his wall, into an adjoining townhouse, and then into another townhouse on the main floor shattering the television set.

A short time after the incident, CTV News spoke to the husband who lives in the townhome where the bullet hit the television.

He says he and his wife had just put their child down for bed when the pair sat on the couch to watch television.

Moments later he said they heard a pop and then the television screen shattered.

The bullet pierced their living room wall just inches above the couch where his wife was sitting.

Residents were also home in the second townhouse that the bullet ripped through but they were on the upper floor.

No one was hurt.

Police have not said what caused the firearm to discharge,

CTV News has learned that charges are pending against the handgun owner.
