Neighbours and friends are pitching in to give a Calgary mom a fresh start after her husband passed away.

Rita Bolcsfoldy lost her husband Paul ten days ago and he left behind a lifetime of things he considered treasures.

His treasures are considered junk by some and his yard is littered with appliances, tires, and remnants.

Paul was a hoarder and his collection has carried on into his home.

Now that he is gone, his wife Rita's neighbours say she deserves a fresh start and they have started a campaign to get the clutter out.

Four women are involved in the project and all are single moms.

One of the women is Rita's neighbour and she has lived next to the mess for years.

She enlisted her best friend to solicit donations and volunteers and they put an ad on kijiji looking for help.

Another single mom stepped up and offered to take care of the renovations.

Rita and her two kids are overwhelmed by the show of support.

"Just the impact of all of this, just getting this much support I'm overwhelmed. I can't believe there are this many people willing to help me, it is mind blowing," said Rita.

The home will be completely redone with new flooring, new paint, and plumbing.

The group of ladies is looking for qualified trades people to donate their skills, time, and materials.

There is a big clean out blitz scheduled for this Saturday.

About 200 volunteers are needed to clear everything out of the house so the work can begin.

Food and drinks as well as gloves and masks will be supplied for anyone who comes out to help.

The organizers would like an idea of how many people are coming out to help out and are asking volunteers to register through their ad on Kijiji.
