Two people, including a child, escaped a devastating fire overnight in the southeast community of Ramsay.

Fire crews were called to Alberta Avenue S.E. just after 11:00 p.m. overnight.

The house was fully involved, with flames shooting out of it.

Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack, but it had extended into the attic and within minutes command called a second alarm for manpower, equipment, and resources.

They couldn't save the house, and instead worked at saving neighbouring homes from the flames.

Nobody was hurt, but a cat died.

Four people in total have been left homeless. The renters in the basement did not have insurance and lost everything.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
