A first degree murder trial may be delayed because of a former Calgary medical examiner's questionable work.

Dr. Michael Belenky left the Medical Examiner's office last month after inconsistencies were found in one of his autopsy reports.

His cases are now being reviewed by Alberta Justice.

One of the cases that may be affected is that of Shengjun An, which was scheduled to begin next Monday.

An, 43, was arrested in February last year and charged with the first degree murder of his wife.

Yanrong Cheng, 41, was found in medical distress in the couple's northwest home and later died.

A hearing on the case is underway and it is expected that lawyers will ask for an adjournment.
