Local wedding planners and vendors are getting a boost from the upcoming royal nuptials of Kate Middleton and Prince William.

"Everybody is going to be watching that wedding to set some trends and there's going to be some high expectations for everybody's wedding to look royal," says wedding planner Angela Schrempf.

At the Calgary Wedding Fair on Sunday, hundreds of brides to be took in the wedding dress fashion show.

But designers say many will make their dress decision only after seeing the royal wedding gown.

"Everyone looks up to the royals, everyone cares to see what kind of a dress she's wearing," says Mia Santos of Sonia's Bridal Studio.

"Everyone wants the same kind of dress she's has. You know, she's royal and everyone expects she's going to have a glamorous dress and every girl wants that for their dream wedding."

Brides-to-be admit they'll be taking notes as the royal couple exchange vows.

"It'll be glamorous and expensive and it'll be fun to watch," Megan Pfiefer says.

Even grooms-to-be are seeing the royal wedding as a trend-setter.

"You are going to see a lot of people watching it and all of a sudden the themes from that wedding are going to come out and you are probably going to see a lot of them not only that summer but the summer to follow," says Ryan Klasen.

Others claim that while they'll be tuning in, they won't copy the royals.

"It's fun to watch what they are doing because you are going through it at the same time," says bride-to-be Amber Vandenhoven.

"But I don't think it's going to affect what I'm doing I always like to do my own style."

According to wedding photographer Anne Wright, that's the key to a happy wedding - staying true to who you are.

"You are not Kate Middleton, you are not Prince William, so you and your partner should get something that is corresponding to what you are and what you want."

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton takes place on Friday, April 29th.
