Lindsay Blackett may have a hard time digging himself out of this one.

The Calgary-North West MLA and Minister of Culture and Community Spirit praised Edmonton for its snow removal efforts. But in doing so he took a shot at Calgary.

"Your snow removal is much better than in the city of Calgary. And I'll be the first one to say that," he said at a trade show in the capital city Saturday morning.

Edmonton received a huge amount of snow last weekend and plows have been working around the clock to clear the roads.

Blackett insists his comments were out of praise for Edmonton's snow removal efforts and not a knock on Calgary.

"Well you know what, I sometimes get in trouble for telling it like it is and it's not so much a knock on Calgary, but I was really impressed a few weeks ago, how in downtown you cleared the snow to the middle of the street and not on the sidewalk so people can get across," he said.

"And the plow could come along in one swoop. It was brilliant."
