Calgarians laced up their runners and layered on the warm clothing to participate in the 7th annual Catch the Elves walk and run for Muscular Dystrophy on Sunday.

Twenty merry elves from the Running Room pulled on their tights, hats and pointy shoes and hit the streets with more than 300 runners and walkers on their heels.

Those who caught up to the elves were given tickets which they were able to redeem for a chance to win great prizes. A medal presentation and festival was held after the race and participants were treated to food and warm drinks. A silent auction and raffle was also set up to raise additional funds.

Organizers of the event hope to raise $50,000 and say proceeds will go towards equipment and mobility aids for Calgarians with Muscular Dystrophy.

Muscular Dystrophy is the number one genetic killer among boys and over 50,000 Canadians are impacted by the disease.
