Shoeboxes filled with treats will soon be making their way to children overseas.

Operation Christmas Child kicked off in Calgary on Friday morning at Bearspaw Christian School.

Ambulances will be making their way to 50 schools across the city to collect boxes.

The students have been hard at work stuffing the shoeboxes full of gifts for the less fortunate.

This is the 14th year paramedics in Calgary have teamed up with Samaritan's Purse to collect the shoeboxes which will be sent to 17 third-world countries.

This year, many of the boxes will go to Haiti to help ease the hardship residents of that country have been experiencing.

Last year, 640,000 shoeboxes were collected as part of Operation Christmas Child.
