A Lethbridge city alderman-elect died suddenly Saturday night, just two days before the new council is set to be sworn in.

Bob Babki passed away last night at his south Lethbridge home from what doctors believe to be heart failure.

Babki had a history of heart problems and reportedly suffered from at least two heart attacks.

He was elected to a seat on Lethbridge city council on October 18, receiving the second highest number of votes.

CTV News has learned that the swearing-in ceremony is still set to go ahead tomorrow as scheduled.
