Calgary police say a severed cat's head found on a doorstep in the northeast may be linked to an August arson case.

A detective was at a home in Temple Monday for a follow-up interview with potential witnesses regarding a suspicious fire from August when he discovered the head.

It's not known how long it had been there.

A tattoo inside the cat's ear identified the animal as a three-year-old female named Bell. The owners said the feline had gone missing Saturday night.

Police say somebody deliberately severed the head, and it was not the act of a natural predator.

The fire happened on the same street in August. Two people were trapped inside the home, which was set on fire at both the front and back entrances. The residents managed to escape.

Police have not ruled out that this may be an act of intimidation. Police have a number of suspects.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about this case to call the Arson Unit at 403-428-8634, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
