There were several protests across Canada on Monday calling for an end to the slaughter of horses.

In Calgary, the protest was held at the headquarters of Bouvry, the company owns a horse slaughtering plant in Fort MacLeod.

Protesters are urging support of a private member's bill in Ottawa that would ban the slaughter of horses for human consumption.

The legislation, tabled by an NDP MP, appears stalled in parliament.
