Police are investigating what could be Calgary's latest homicide.

The body of a man was found in a parking lot located at 1540 16 Avenue NW at around 9 a.m. Sunday.

So far police will only call it a suspicious death, although homicide detectives were on the scene all day.

Kyle Gordon saw the body when he was walking his girlfriend to work.

"I just thought he was passed out, and then honestly, I thought there was a possibility that he was still alive, but until I came back here now, I know that he's dead, it's quite disturbing," said Gordon.

Gordon's girlfriend Brandi Field couldn't get the image out of her mind. She went to work nearby, opened her store, and left.

"I'm still really shaken up. I don't know how people deal with it, and I just have to deal with it as time goes," said Field.

Police taped off the entire parking lot, closing the Budget Rent a Car outlet, a liquor store, and the adult video store where the body was discovered.

Sebastian Rodas works for Budget. He was shocked by such a gruesome scene.

"It's not a very pleasant image. We're trying to do business here, and we can't have customers coming in or any of our regular duties," said Rodas.

Experts with the Forensic Crime Scene Unit meticulously marked a path of blood and other evidence leading from the alley to the body.

"The matter is being treated as a suspicious death. The Homicide Unit has been called out to handle the investigation, and the Medical Examiner was called to the scene," commented Insp. Keith Cain with the Calgary Police Service.

Police won't say if they've recovered a weapon or other evidence from the scene.

It could be a few days before a cause of death is confirmed.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
