Former alderman Barry Erskine has come out of left field and filed nomination papers to run in the upcoming municipal election.
Erskine left his aldermanic seat in the last election to run for mayor, but missed the deadline to file papers.
Earlier, MLA Kent Hehr gave up his chase for the big chair.
Hehr dropped out Monday morning, saying he didn't have the support to continue on.
He's not throwing his support behind any specific candidate, but says he has been impressed with Naheed Nenshi.
Alnoor Kassam, Paul Hughes, Greg Berdette and Lawrence Oshanek have also withdrawn from the race.
Monday at noon was the deadline for anyone running to file papers for the October 18th vote.
Those filing papers on nomination day for the office of mayor, alderman, public or separate school trustee had to drop them off at city hall from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Those running for mayor and alderman need 100 signatures, while those running for school trustee need 25 signatures.
The eligible electors signing nomination papers must live in the ward in which you are running. If running for mayor the signators must be eligible voters living within the boundaries of the city of Calgary.
The papers must also be accompanied by $500.00 for anyone running for mayor, $100.00 for office of alderman or school trustee.
