The Children's Cottage is about to undergo some much needed renovations.

The refuge for kids and babies was chosen by CTV, Albi Renova, and Albi Homes for this year's Operation Renovation.

Since 1986, Calgary children in crisis have found shelter and loving care at Children's Cottage Society.

"The [parents] might be homeless, have no food, or be ill. The children stay with us then return to their parents in a few days,' says Patty Kilgallon, the executive director of the 12-bed emergency care facility.

The cottage calls a charming building in Bridgeland home. But after 15 years, it's time for a fresh look.

On Thursday, Brian Maurer and his Albi team stopped by the facility and briefed everyone on the renovations to come.

The bedroom area will get a new look which reflects the emotional heart of the cottage. This is where children and babies find a safe night's sleep.

"We plan on redoing that entire room…making it feel like a home for these children" says Maurer.

The playroom will get some upgrades after years of heavy use by the kids.

The work will take place starting September 27th and end five days later.

CTV News will track the progress during this year's Operation Renovation.
