There have been reports of a tornado touching down near James River Bridge by Sundre, northwest of Calgary.

Witnesses describe seeing a large cone descending from the clouds and a tornado on the ground.

So far, there are no reports of injury or damage, but golf ball-sized hail is being seen in some areas in the storm's path.

It has been a wild ride for people living in parts of southern Alberta.

The Alberta public warning system has been alerting people all over the province about the serious storm and we have been tracking it since the clouds started forming.

Persons should be on the lookout for adverse weather conditions and take necessary safety precautions.

If there is a tornado in your area you should do the following:

  • Get low and put as many walls between you and the storm as much as possible.
  • Stay away from doors windows and outside walls.
  • If you are on the highway and unable to avoid the storm, seek shelter immediately in a ditch or a ravine.
