A CF-18 fighter jet has crashed at the Lethbridge Regional Airport Friday.

The crash occurred when the jet was doing a low speed pass near the terminal.

Witnesses say the plane banked hard right, the pilot ejected and his parachute opened.

He ejected from the plane at approximately 100 meters off the ground.

His injuries are unknown at this time, but he has been taken to hospital complaining of lower back pain.

The crash occurred about 275 meters from the main terminal, just off a taxiway.

Highway 5 is now open, but traffic is delayed due to the crash.

The Lethbridge International Airshow will still take place this weekend in Lethbridge.
