Calgarians were embracing an international movement of spreading good cheer in Inglewood Saturday morning.

July 3rd is International Free Hugs Day, and Calgarians making their way along 9th Avenue Southeast were greeted with hugs from complete strangers.

Organizers say the mission is two-fold; spread joy through random acts of kindness and raise awareness for the "Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary".

The society provides long-term programs and support to young women who are victims of, or are at risk of, sexual exploitation.

International Free Hugs Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Saturday of July.

The campaign started in Australia in 2004 and has spread around the world.
