Redcliff RCMP have charged the biological mother of a little girl who was abducted Sunday.

25-year-old Lola Katherine Dejong made her first court appearance Monday.

The Medicine Hat woman is charged with abduction in contravention of a custody order and break and enter to a dwelling house.

Another person is in RCMP custody awaiting charges.

Two-year-old Venus Dejong was reported missing from her home in Redcliff.

The family told police someone snatched her as she slept.

On Monday, the girl's grandmother walked into the Jasper RCMP detachment and turned her over to police.

Police believe the toddler was driven to a residence in Lethbridge and given to a third party who may not have known that Venus had been abducted.

Now that her grandmother has handed her over to Jasper RCMP, they're returning the girl to her home to Redcliff.

The investigation continues.
