Thousands of people walked together to fight global poverty Sunday at the 26th annual World Partnership Walk at Prince's Island Park.

About 3,000 people walked five kilometres and helped to raise $900,000.

All of the money raised goes to fund projects that help fight hunger and poverty in developing nations. Projects focus on health education and social development.

"Half the world lives on less than $2 a day," said organizer Tasneem Rahim. "Canadians are such generous individuals and they really come to the plate when it comes to being part of the solution to alleviate global party."

The World Partnership Walk is held in nine cities across Canada. Calgary's event is one of the top fundraisers. Nationwide the walk has raised more than $45-million to fight world poverty.
